Set Metal Cubes, 6 pcs.

This set consists of 6 metal cubes, each with sides of approx. 20 mm. The set is ideal for determining magnetic properties, hardness, conductivity, density or melting point.

Literature values for density:
Aluminium: 2698.9 kg/m³ at 20 °C
Zinc: 7140 kg/m³ at 25 °C
Steel (iron): different depending on variety, iron: 7874 kg/m³ at 20 °C
Copper: 8920 kg/m³ at 20 °C
Brass: 8410 to 8860 kg/m³ depending on variety
Lead: 11342 kg/m³ at 20 °C

Note
If you work out the density yourself by taking measurements, this may deviate from the literature value.

• Did you use calibrated analysis scales?
• Did you use a calibrated overflow container? Or did you use some other process to determine the volume (calibrated callipers?)
• Density is temperature dependent! Did you factor in the thermal expansion of the cube?
• Did you take a whole series of measurements for each cube and did you have an error discussion with error calculation? The measured values may then be closer to the literature values.

These metal cubes are technical materials. Consequently, the materials may contain impurities that affect the density calculation. The aluminium, zinc, copper and lead items are not pure chemical substances.
