Learn about ladybirds and their habitat!

Use this didactic DVD to convey the characteristics, features, habitat and threats to ladybirds as an example of insects. The film and digital interactive exercises cover the development of this useful insect from egg to larvae and pupae through to ladybird (metamorphosis). The diversity of the little insect is surprising: the 7-spot ladybird is the most common species of ladybird in Germany but there are many others to discover. The 2-spot and 4-spot ladybird or even ladybirds with far more than 10 spots can also be found. We are often unaware of this diversity!

Ladybirds and their larvae are also act as extremely effective organic pest control. They eradicate vast amounts of aphids as well as other plant pests.

Many of our insects are at risk of extinction! Their food and habitats are decreasing: flowering meadows are often turned into towns, roads and farmland and herbicides kill off their source of food. Dealing with the living conditions of ladybirds and their habitats will increase awareness of nature's fragility and the risks to plants and insects as part of education for sustainable development (BNE), motivating children to contribute to environmental protection on a small scale.
