Many of our insects are threatened with extinction today because they find less and less food and habitat. The ant world offers the opportunity to observe ants building their branching tunnel systems and to develop more understanding for the unique living world of these small animals. To do this, first fill the ant world with the enclosed sand and it is ready to serve as a home for your ants. Collect ants from nature or order a small ant colony with workers, queen and eggs (Hagemann ant colony, art. no. 81093). Watch the ants run through the connecting tube to the feeder and back. This set is very suitable as a demonstration object in the class room or as a valuable educational contribution.

Through primary experiences in direct contact with and care of animals, children learn to take responsibility for the natural environment. After only a short time, you can observe how the industrious ants dig small tunnels in the sand and slowly a large tunnel system emerges. The ants can survive in the ant world for up to six months. Dealing with the living conditions of animals and plants and their habitat, should raise awareness of the vulnerability of nature and its endangerment and motivate the children to get involved in environmental protection on a small scale.

In this respect, the enclosed manual contains many valuable suggestions for environmentally and climate-conscious action and education for sustainable development, in line with the education for sustainable development (ESD). Such suggestions are marked with the "We-protect-our-earth-symbol" and can be found quickly.

In addition, the children can access 3 interactive exercises in which they deal even more intensively with the living world and characteristics of ants.

Notes:

• The ants are not included in this set!
• You can use almost all native path and field ants that are not protected by nature conservation or cultivate our ant colony.
• Please also note that very small ant species can escape through the ventilation holes
• It is advisable not to put more than 20 ants in the container. Please take care not to bring in other insects or ants of different kinds. It is best to collect the ants in front of an anthill. This ensures that only ants from one tribe are collected.

Use the Hagemann Ant World in the spirit of education for sustainable development (ESD) as a basis to inspire children to engage with the topic of nature and environmental protection. While observing the ants, the children learn about state-building insects and develop an interest in conserving and protecting ants and other insects and their habitats.
