With the help of the Hagemann Magnetic Food Pyramid and the Hagemann Magnetic Food Pictures, you can teach children in a playful and clear way which foods belong to a balanced diet and into which groups foods can be divided.

The food pyramid shows approximately how much of which foods you should eat each day. It is divided into six levels and eight food groups, each of which can be assigned different foods. The individual boxes in each group represent units and show the different amounts of each food to be eaten.

Challenge the children to assign different foods to the appropriate food group, e.g. broccoli to the vegetables group, or water to the drinks group. This is a fun way for them to learn about food groups. While the foods are being classified into the individual groups, it is a good idea to sort out critical or questionable foods, discuss them afterwards and assign them to the correct group. This refers to foods that are often considered healthier than they actually are. For example, does hot chocolate belong to beverages, dairy products or sweets?
