- Detailed product description
See the world as insects see it!
These multi-faceted lenses have two effects: children can learn how insects and spiders see and why flies see so quickly when we try to catch them. The rotatable eyepiece and fascinating effects provide totally new types of sensory perception.
These three types of lenses teach discoverers of all ages how the world is seen by different insects. The facet lens divides the picture into many small pictures - as in the eyes of bees, butterflies, ladybirds, ants, flies or other insects. A facet eye is made up of a large number of small eyes - each seeing an individual picture. This is why the facet eye has lower resolution than the human eye, yet still possesses huge advantages, as explained in the instructions.
The spiral lens - also called the ocelli lens - is focussed in the centre and has long facets around the central area. This is how spiders see the world.
The linear lenshas oblique facets across the entire width of the lens, making polarised light visible. This helps insects to find their way even if the sky is clouded over.
Find more details in the illustrated instructions.
Children learn about how insects see in this way, helping them to take an interest in the insect environment, in the spirit of the Education for Sustainable Development, taking action to protect the planet in easy steps.
Lenses can also be used for new sensory perception. Ask the children to try out the lenses, to move the rotatable eyepiece and wonder at the fascinating sensations: a variety of magic patterns and optical effects. These three lens types allow to children to see their surroundings in a totally new way!
