The seed mix consists of approx. 50 select annual and perennial wild herbs. They are particularly valuable thanks to the ease with which they flower, offering a rich source of nectar and pollen between April (in the 2nd year, or May in the 1st year) and October. A wonderful, rich array of flowers with high-energy nectar for bees, bumblebees and butterflies and plenty of pollen to supply protein to the brood. Sowing our butterfly and bee meadow will help encourage strong, productive insects, which in turn will pollinate fruit trees, berry bushes and lots of crops.
Working the soil: the soil should have a fine crumbly texture before sowing. This can be achieved by digging it over, hoeing and raking. During the autumn before the seeds are to be sown, the area should be effectively cleared of any problematic weeds, such as couch grass or field thistle.
Sowing: April to late May, in dry areas up to early May. The seed should only be placed on the soil. Subsequent rolling is beneficial.
Sowing density: 2 g/square metre, 20 kg/ha
Care: normally no care or intervention required during the entire lifetime of up to 5 years. Only if there is exceptional pressure from weeds, due to problematic plants such as field thistle, millet and dock, is it necessary to cut these back once or twice before they flower. The growth should be left as cover in autumn after the section above ground dies off. During the breeding and rearing season, any maintenance activity should be avoided if at all possible.
