TimeTEX Dot Exercise "Montessori Premium"

As a continuation of the Golden Bead Material, the Dot Exercise helps children prepare for adding without the help of any material.
The aim is to recognise and practise the principle of bundling ten units into a higher value. The diagram for the game is printed on a white plastic sheet.

Working with the Dot Exercise also enables the child to perform additions with multi-digit summands at a very early age.

The focus here is on reaching the bundling number 10, switching to the higher place value and finding the result at the relevant place.

Learning opportunities:

• addition of multi-digit summands
• deepen the understanding of number transfers

Information on didactic method:

• write a multi-digit addition task on the place value board.
• enter the unit summands as dots in the first column.
• cross out the full lines with a black pen. Replace each crossed-out line with a black dot in the bottom field.
• enter the surplus unit dots as a number in the bottom field.
• enter the number of tens to be transferred in the tens column in red pencil.
• in the next step, enter the tens digit summands as black dots in the tens column and finally add the tens from the ones column as red dots.
• from here, the work is repeated as for the units. The result appears at the bottom.
