Learning opportunities
Getting to know the function principle of the Roman arch as a precursor for all other arches, domes, etc.
Method - didactic information
A tablet or work mat to avoid individual building blocks falling down.
Presentation of the exercise
The educator assembles the construction aid and places it between the two pre-built stands, then assembles the arch with the individual blocks. The 9th and last block at the top in the middle secures the arch and then you can remove the construction aid to show the child that the arch now holds itself. You then build all other blocks on top of it. The child can help build the arch or rebuild it on their own.
You can also try out with the child what happens if you remove the 9th middle stone.
In addition, cross arches, domes and ceiling vaults can be discussed with the historical background.
