- Detailed product description
Teach children more about their native birds!
These homemade hanging bird feeders are the ideal way to introduce children to our native bird life. Hang the feeders in the school garden or outside your nursery.
The children can watch out of the window as the birds come and get food:
- what kind of birds are coming to the bird feeders?
- which birds are eating which food?
- which birds come at what time to get food?
- how do the birds behave when getting the food?
Project work could include supplementing the food mix with berries collected from hawthorn, elder, sea buckthorn, rowan and sloe, grains from various types of cereal, seeds from grasses, burs, stinging nettles, thistles, dock and dandelion, pumpkin seeds, beechnuts and also walnuts and hazelnuts.
Important:
When collecting your own grains from cereals and grasses, make sure these are not affected by a fungus (Claviceps purpurea "ergot fungus"). This fungus is poisonous for birds. It looks similar to the cereal grains but is larger and dark grey or even black in colour. Consequently, it is better to use the seed mix supplied for birds.
Feeding with no risk.
The birds can land easily on the hanging bird feeders and fly off again. There is no chance of the birds getting caught on these homemade feeders e.g. in contrast to birdfeeders using plastic netting.

Product information
The law requires that the toy must conform to an EC standard and labelled with the CE symbol. Our creative articles primarily include craft materials and constituent materials which do not need to be labelled and often do not meet the strict requirements for toys.
For this reason, these products are not all labelled with a warning notice, such as for small parts which can be swallowed or sharp edges. This affects wooden designs for painting or self-adhesive glitter stones, for example.
Scissors are not a toy and although they can be sharp and pointy, they do not require a warning label.
It naturally also makes pedagogical sense that children learn to evaluate risk from their own experiences. However, it is ultimately your responsibility and decision of which items to give children when making crafts.
Our creative materials are primarily intended for children over 3 years of age. However, children under the age of 14 should only craft under adult supervision and standard precautionary measures taken.
