Finally, you can now experience wild bee hatching!
The hatching chamber is the optimum addition to our Hagemann wild bee breeding kit (81450, 81550, 81565 and 81560). Thanks to the hinged hatching chamber, the fascinating hatching process of the small wild bees from their cocoons can now be carefully observed without disturbing the bees. Place the hatching chamber on the educational nesting box or right next to the nesting box. Easy to use! Simply fold back the lid of the hatching chamber and carefully fill it with the cocoons. From mid/end-April, you can carefully check to see how far the mason bees have come. Even when you spot the first wild bees outside the nesting box, you will still have enough time to observe them as mason bees hatch at different times. The males hatch first, followed by the females two or three days later.
We deliver the cocoons from January to early May, as the wild bees hatch from the middle/end of April. However, you may store the cocoons in a cool place until late April (if necessary, even until mid-May, see below) so that you can plan a precise project start date between April and May. If you do not wish to store the cocoons in a cool place, you can request them from us in April. The wild bees will then hatch shortly after delivery.
The observational hatching chamber gives children an exciting insight into the life of these harmless wild bees as part of education for sustainable development (BNE). At the same time, it is a nice way to design more natural outdoor areas and to create opportunities for other insects and animal species to become established. Children can observe the fascinating wild bees and their buzzing relatives with their own eyes.
