How does a wild bee develop?

How does a large wild bee grow from a small egg and larva? How does it leave its cocoon and what does it do in winter? The lovingly designed magnetic pictures and accompanying material visually and interactively help children learn about the life cycle of wild bees from egg to hatching from the tube. The mason bee creates a breeding chamber one after the other inside the nesting tube, the larva hatch and grow until they pupate into a solid cocoon. The development of the bee then takes place. The wild bees overwinter inside the cocoon and hatch in spring. The individual stages through to complete metamorphosis are detailed step by step on the board. Practical work directly on the model helps stimulate interest in the learning materials and reinforces the topics being communicated.

The set consists of 8 picture cards that show the cycle and 8 corresponding cards for labelling. Children can work on the fascinating life cycle of the mason bee in groups, eventually assembling the pictures on the board. The right solution can then be developed and consolidated using the enclosed worksheets and tablet exercises.

The learning guide contains factual information for teachers and worksheets to support lesson planning. The interactive exercises motivate children to continue learning in a fun way. These can either be viewed on a computer (via link) or directly on your smartphone/tablet (using the QR code). They are ideal for consolidating newly acquired knowledge and for independent learning.

The teaching materials contain lots of valuable ideas for environmentally friendly, climate-aware behaviour and to educate children about sustainable development. These ideas are flagged with the "We are protecting our earth symbol" and can be quickly identified.

The magnetic pictures are the optimum addition to our wild bee breeding kit 81450, 81550, 81560 and 81565. This helps children understand and consolidate their knowledge of the developmental stages of wild bees and learn what happens in the nesting boxes.
