It's not crazy, it's pure bionics in action! These window crawlers show how a natural biomechanical phenomenon can be applied to technology. Even though the crawlers are relatively heavy, the adhesive power of their little legs is sufficient to allow them to run vertically over a smooth surface. Just throw the window crawlers at the windowpane and watch how they run down over the surface.

With the help of our microscope or even a powerful school or electron microscope, you can examine the feet of the window crawlers and compare their characteristics with those of insect legs (e.g. the housefly or ant).

Even though the window crawlers look very simple, natural structures and functional principles have been used as the prototype in order to produce this innovative plastic with its special characteristics. These materials are of great interest, for example in the development of robots, probes or spacecraft that need to move about on or adhere to different surfaces.
