Ant Colony

The black garden ant (Lasius niger) is among the most widely known ant species in central Europe. The workers range in colour from dark brown to black and grow to be about 5 mm in length. Black garden ants are best observed between March and October. The ants feed on substances that contain sugar and protein, e.g. honeydew and insects.

Tip:
The Ant world (81100) is ideal for observing the ant colony.
