This practical mushroom cultivation set enables you to grow your own mushrooms. You will be amazed at how quick and easy this is! All you need is the mushroom box and a cool room (15-18 °C), for example a cellar – and nothing else! Children find these kinds of nature observations fascinating and everyone will love the flavour of the freshly harvested white button mushrooms. Freshness is particularly important for mushrooms because they lose their flavour even after just a short storage period. You can get up to four harvests of delicious mushrooms with your study group using your mushroom cultivation box. Watch how the mycelium propagates, and the mushrooms develop from this. It's really easy to cultivate your own mushrooms with this set!

Growing mushrooms – made easy!

You prepare the box. After approx. 10 days, the mycelium will have propagated. Then things happen rapidly: the mushrooms sprout and after another 10 days, they can be harvested. In the first two harvests you will generally get approx. 900 g mushrooms (7-10 mushrooms).
For a successful harvest, it is important to keep the mushrooms cold from the 10th day (15-18 °C).

The mushroom cultivation set comes with detailed instructions and 7 worksheets, differentiated for nursery and school (observation sheets, structure of a mushroom, poisonous mushrooms, mushroom puzzle, mushroom tea light, 2 recipes).

Mushrooms in lessons: biology and domestic science
In biology, the mushroom cultivation sets let you teach about and observe the appearance, structure, metabolism and reproduction of these eukaryotic organisms. Remove the samples for analysis and examination under a microscope. Mushrooms in ecosystems, mushrooms as environmental indicators, mushrooms as food and therapeutic substances, fungal toxins, mushrooms as food storage pests, relationships and phylogeny are other topics on the curriculum which can be covered in lessons alongside the project.

Mushrooms as a foodstuff and the preparation of meals with mushrooms are points of reference for domestic science lessons. The ideal approach is to use this as an interdisciplinary project, which can even be extended into the area of business studies by examining the topic "Mushrooms as an international trade commodity".

The protection and conservation of our planet's biodiversity are goals of the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This biodiversity also includes fungi, which play a key role in the conservation of natural resources as well as being environmentally and economically important. Lots of plants have a symbiotic relationship with fungi in order to supply themselves with nutrients. Fungi also act as decomposers, removing plant and animal waste by penetrating dead biomass with their hyphae and breaking it down with their digestive enzymes. Working with mushrooms can inspire children to get involved in preserving habitats and protecting the environment and nature.
