TimeTEX Metal Insets "Montessori Premium"

Children start working with the Metal Insets between the ages of 3 and 6. The immediate aim of the material is to help children develop the fine motor skills to hold a pencil and prepare for writing.

The set contains 10 insets with the shapes triangle, square, rectangle, trapezoid, pentagon, egg, circle, ellipse, arc triangle and quatrefoil.

Maria Montessori developed the Metal Insets over the course of many years. She spent hours observing children tracing patterns in order to refine this activity.

Working with the insets teaches the children to develop their pencil grip. This refines their fine motor skills and teaches them to draw within an outline.
The shape forms the control of error of the material. The Metal Insets allow the children to indirectly practice concentration and order while working with the material.

The hand and finger movements required to trace all these shapes are aligned with all the movements the child needs to make to develop their pensil grip and writing skills.
It is important that the child develops the correct pensil grip. If they use triangular shaped pencils, they will develop this grip automatically.
