- Detailed product description
Working with this material refines listening skills to the point of developing the ability to recognize the sound properties of objects even without seeing them (you can do this blindfolded). Like other Montessori sensory materials for young children, this material helps to develop concentration, will and intelligence and sharpens observation of the environment.
This material promotes the differentiation of the perception of sound differences. It is used to practice motor skills and train auditory memory. In addition to language development, it contributes to preparation for music.
The material consists of two boxes with six sound cylinders each, with the sound scale ranging from quiet to loud. One set of cylinders has red stoppers, the other has blue stoppers. The cylinders are filled with different materials that make louder or quieter noises when shaken. A cylinder with a red lid is identical to a cylinder with a blue lid.
Learning opportunities:
- strengthen the sense of hearing
- stimulate attention
- find pairs of sounds
- recognize different sounds
- naming sounds
- train the auditory memory
- expanding vocabulary
Methodological and didactic tips:
The teacher takes three pairs of blue and three pairs of red sound cylinders that are particularly different in terms of sound. They slowly shake one of the blue cylinders, then the matching counterpart from the red cylinder is also shaken. Once the correct counterpart has been found, these are placed to one side as a pair.
When all the pairs are together, the child checks whether they have been matched correctly. To do this, you can put the same color mark on the bottom of one blue and one red cylinder.
Now shuffle the cylinders again and ask the child to sort them according to the sound. As soon as the child has achieved safety with three pairs, the number of cylinders is increased until all six pairs of cylinders are in use.
Variations:
The child is asked to sort the cyliinders by volume up or down. The blue set and the red set are placed in two different rooms. Then one cylinder is shaken and the child is asked to fetch the same-sounding cylinder from the other room.
For children with poor concentration, it is a good idea to do the exercises blindfolded so that the "distracting" sense of sight is switched off.
