The set consists of a set of 10 rods from 10 cm to 100 cm, with alternating red and blue segments of 10 cm.
One of the first activity in a Montessori classroom that has to do with numbers are the Number Rods. They represent quantities from one to ten.
By engaging with the material, the child also develops concepts of number sequencing, combinations of 10s and basic arithmetic. The first rod is 10 cm long. Each rod increases by a further 10 cm (cumulative) up to the tenth rod, which is 1 meter (100 cm) long.
The rods are made of solid wood and treated with a matt, environmentally friendly varnish to prevent chipping.
Special numerals on wooden boards are available separately for working with the Number Rods.
